Built from the other end

Here is how Deepgram and Frequency differ.

Deepgram is a speech-to-text company first, with a public streaming API, 45+ languages and $200 of free credit. We're narrower: phone calls in India. We turn a recording into a transcript that knows who's speaking and keeps Hindi in Devanagari and English in Latin script, for ₹18 an hour. And our voice speaks Hindi, which Deepgram's Aura voices don't list.

Deepgram started with speech to text and grew outward. Its Nova models cover 45+ languages, most big Indian ones among them, with a multilingual mode for audio that switches language. Flux adds turn detection for voice agents. Every price is published, and the streaming API takes up to 150 streams at once on pay as you go.

We started with the Indian phone call and worked back. Fourier STT is our own speech recognition. It listens on every call our agents make, and it runs on our GPUs in India. For recordings, Fourier Transcribe goes over each one several times and has our own language model write one clean transcript. Give it a line of context and the names that matter, and it uses them. A draft is readable within seconds, and the final version says who spoke, and when.

How it sounds

How the Hindi compares

On RinggAI’s public test of 10,000 Hindi recordings, Fourier STT had the lowest error rate of five systems, at 9.12%. The Deepgram output bundled with that dataset scored 15.79%. Two honest notes. Ringg chose that Deepgram version, and it may be older than what Deepgram serves today. And the recordings are read speech, not phone calls.

So test on your own audio. Send twenty recorded calls to both, and score them against transcripts a native speaker has corrected.

Which to pick

Which is right for you?

Sometimes it's them. We'll say so.

Choose Deepgram if…

  • You need a public streaming API today. Ours is still in private preview.
  • You transcribe many languages, or mostly English.
  • You want $200 of free credit and a published price for every model.
  • You need an EU endpoint as well as an Indian one.

Choose Frequency if…

  • Your recordings are phone calls in Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu or English, often mixed.
  • You want each word in its own script: Hindi in Devanagari, English in Latin.
  • You also need an Indian voice, on the same key and wallet.
  • You'd like to grow into full phone agents on the same stack.

Where Deepgram is ahead

If you need to stream live audio through a public API today, Deepgram is ready and we aren’t. Ours is in private preview. Deepgram also covers far more languages, and offers EU and India endpoints.

Moving

Moving your code across is easy.

One request in, a transcript with speakers out.

  1. Step 1

    Open the sandbox.

Look around with no sign-up. When you are ready, create a key in Developers.

  2. Step 2

    Send a recording.

One POST with the file, and a line of context about the call if you have it.

  3. Step 3

    Read who said what.

The transcript comes back with a speaker on every line, each word in its own script.

Switching

Upload a recording to POST /v2/transcriptions with a line of context and the names to get right. For files over 45 MB, send an https link instead. Then check the job until it’s done. A call can run to two hours. The transcription guide has Python and Node.js examples, and the Hindi STT comparison lists what other Hindi recognisers cost.

Were you going to pair Deepgram with a voice and a model to build an agent? Ours come with all three, for ₹1 a minute on the volume plan.
