Two discounts stand between you and the headline rate

Here is how Speechmatics and Frequency differ.

Speechmatics is a speech-to-text company with EU, US and Australian regions, on-prem containers for enterprises and a multilingual model that switches language mid-sentence. Its headline rate is reached only after two discounts. We transcribe Indian phone calls at one rate, ₹18 an hour, with speaker labels included and every word in its own script.

Speechmatics has been transcribing speech for a long time, and it shows. There are regions in Europe, the US and Australia. Enterprises can run the recogniser in their own data centre or on a device. Melia 1, the newest model, takes audio in 56 languages without being told which one, and follows speakers who switch mid-sentence.

The pricing page leads with “from $0.121/hr”. Read the small print and that number is the base rate of $0.24 after two cuts: 33% for letting your audio and transcripts train their models, and 25% for a top-tier annual commitment. Pay as you go, which is where most people start, bills the base rate to the second.

We have one rate. Fourier Transcribe is our own speech recognition for recorded calls, built for the way people in India talk on the phone. It runs on our GPUs in India, and the transcript comes back with a speaker on every line and each word in its own script.

What an hour costs

Melia 1 is $0.24 an hour at the base rate, about ₹22.79 at the ECB rate. Standard is 0.45 USD, about ₹42.73, and Enhanced is 0.75 USD, about ₹71.22. Opt into model training and commit for a year, and Melia 1 falls to about ₹11.40.

Ours is ₹18 an hour, 30 paise a minute, with speaker labels included. A five-minute call costs ₹1.50. You pay once, when the job finishes, and a job that fails or comes back degraded is free.

So on pay as you go we are cheaper. With both discounts, Speechmatics is. Decide which one you are actually going to be on.

The languages that matter here

Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi and Urdu are in the Speechmatics table. Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada and Malayalam are not. There is a Tamil and English bilingual pack, and none for Hindi and English, which is how most Indian business calls go.

We do Hindi, English, Gujarati, Tamil and Telugu, and the Hinglish in between. Speaker labels come with every transcript. On Speechmatics they are included too, except on Melia 1 in real time, where it labels channels, not speakers.

These are the base hourly rates in US dollars that pay as you go bills, printed in the page's own rate table. The cards on the page show lower figures: Melia 1 at $0.12 is the base $0.24 less 33% for letting your audio train their models, less 25% for a top-tier annual commitment (0.24 × 0.67 × 0.75 = $0.12). Sometimes it's them. We'll say so.

Choose Speechmatics if…

  • You need the speech recogniser inside your own data centre, or on a device. Speechmatics sells that on Enterprise.
  • You transcribe Bengali, Marathi or Urdu today. Those are in its language table; ours are coming.
  • You need a real-time API in Europe, the US or Australia, with audio never stored.
  • You can commit for a year and let your audio train their models, which is what the lowest rate needs.

Choose Frequency if…

  • Your recordings are phone calls in Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu or English, often mixed.
  • You want one rate with no opt-ins: ₹18 an hour, speaker labels included.
  • You want the audio processed in India, on our own GPUs.

Where Speechmatics is ahead

Switching

Send the recording to POST /v2/transcriptions with a line of context and the names to get right. For files over 45 MB, send an https link instead. Then poll the job until it is done. The transcription guide has Python and Node.js examples, and the Hindi STT comparison lists what other recognisers cost.

Then run twenty real calls through both and score them against a transcript a native speaker has corrected. Ten minutes of that beats an afternoon of reading rate cards.

Is Speechmatics really $0.12 an hour?

Only at the bottom of two discounts. Its page says the $0.12 for Melia 1 is the base $0.24 less 33% for opting your audio into model training, less 25% for a top-tier annual commitment. Pay as you go bills the base rate, about ₹22.79 at the ECB rate. Ours is ₹18 an hour with no opt-ins.

Does Speechmatics do Hindi?

Yes. Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi and Urdu are in its language table, and Melia 1 switches language mid-sentence. Telugu and Gujarati are not in the table. There is a Tamil and English pack but no Hindi and English one.

Can I run your recogniser on my own servers?

Not today. Every request runs on our GPUs in India, which is the point for most of our customers. Speechmatics sells containers, virtual appliances and on-device deployments on its Enterprise plan.

Is transcription ₹1 a minute?

No. ₹1 a minute is a whole phone agent on our volume plan. Transcribing a recording costs ₹18 an hour of audio, which is 30 paise a minute.
